Said to have been established in 718 during the Nara Period. The main hall's triple nagare-zukuri style roof feature is designated as an important cultural property.
The path to the shrine is a tunnel of cherry blossoms in spring and maple leaves in autumn.

AR Nagaoka-kyu is an application which lets you experience the ancient Nagaoka-kyu Palace and capital right before your eyes, using Augmented and Virtual Reality technology, to reproduce what the four historical areas within Muko City (Chodai-in Park, Daigoku-den Park, Dairi Park, Tsuiji-ato) would have looked like in their prime.

8 types of bamboo line the 1.8km path through this bamboo grove. The rustling of the wind and the songs of small birds provide background noise to the aromas and the sunlight filtering through the bamboo grove, making this place somewhere for a healing and envigorating stroll.

The "Daigoku-den" was the most important place in the capital from where the emperor governed, while the "Shoan-den" is located behind it, also called the "Ko-den".
