Request to those traveling abroad  

There are currently multiple cases of bovine (cattle) infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, avian (bird) diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza, ovine (sheep) and caprine (goats) diseases such as rinderpest or peste des petits ruminants (PPR) being reported in South Korea and other neighboring Asian countries.　

To prevent the entry of these diseases into Japan, there is now stricter and more thorough enforcement of processes like animal quarantine and the disinfection of shoe soles and whole vehicles at airports and ports. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Entering livestock-related facilities whilst abroad

If for unavoidable reasons you must enter livestock-related facilities such as animal livestock farms or live bird markets, there is a risk that pathogens come into contact with and stay on your person or clothing. Please stop by the animal quarantine service counter at customs inspection when you arrive in Japan.

Shoes and items soiled with dirt from abroad

There is a risk that pathogens remain attached to items, such as golf shoes or items soiled with dirt, that you have packed in golf bags or suitcases on your return from abroad. Please stop by the animal quarantine service counter at customs inspection when you arrive in Japan.

Bringing in baggage from abroad

Please contact the animal quarantine service if you have sent baggage from abroad that contains items such as golf shoes soiled with dirt.
